Get summer started!

Yesterday morning, the kids were up early.

Like, CRAZY EARLY

But I guess the last day excitement was just too much.

And now it's official, they are finished with Kindergarten and Second Grade.

They skipped their way out of the car in the morning, and cried their way back in later that day.

I mean, really?

I guess I should be happy that they love school, but tears?

So I did what I do best and comforted them with food.

But thankfully, the tears soon stopped, and the fun had begun....

Let's get this summer started!

Let's just dwell on the fun

This

Much

 Fun?

It can only mean one thing....

 Neena

And Papaw, were here for a visit!

And what a great visit it was!

My parents came down here with two objectives:

1) Watch Hope in her kindergarten program

2) Watch Pierce play some baseball

They accomplished those two, but I had one more idea up my sleeve....

Since I'm now a working woman, I knew I was going to have to miss field day. Blah. That made me sad.

But then I had a grand idea!

How about my parents join Paul at field day?

That's right, NEENA AND PAPAW WERE GOING TO BE THERE!

Seriously, who needs mom when your grandparents can show up?

Grandparents always trump parents.

My mom texted me updates throughout the morning.

Like when Hope was about to run her race.  (Can you see her back there? Pink hat on)

And I think I responded, "oh poor baby, she's slow like her mom"

BUT CHECK OUT WHO WON.  Way to prove me wrong Hopie!

And then?

Pierce won too!

I was so sad I was missing all of it,  but I so appreciated Paul and my parents stepping in.

I mean, our kids must think they are rock stars, just look at my mom down there snapping away on her phone.

And my dad down there filming away.

You know, I would imagine this will be a day that they never forget, their daddy and  their grandparents showing up to cheer them on.  So sweet.

It's good to share these visits

And make these memories.

The only problem is they have to end.

So until next time

Let's just dwell on all the fun we had.

Class of 2025

On a hot August day I dropped my youngest off for her first day of kindergarten.

And then I promptly drove away and cried.

I really think handing your children over to school is one of the toughest things.

But the year has been great.

Yes, there have been tears. From the both of us.

But Hope has thrived, matured, learned, and had fun.

And Thursday we celebrated what a great year it's been.

Even big brother got out of class to come cheer the kindergartners on.

You know there is nothing quite as sweet as kindergartners.

They are so innocent and full of life...

But at just 5 and 6 year olds, kids that age are exhausting.

Kuddos to the teachers who do it day-in-and-day-out.  I APPRECIATE YOU!

And wouldn't you know they played that evil Taylor Swift song.

Lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.

I agree with you Taylor, never grow up.

Just a four days left.

And then we have a first-grader.

Class of 2025.

Until we meet again.

Someone graduated Kindergarten yesterday.

This made for a very full, wonderful day.

And the icing on the great-day-cake is that Neena and Papaw are here to share in all the festivities.

But a late night at the ball field and an early day today, means all this will have to wait until we meet again.

Have a good weekend my bloggy people!

KENTUCKYNESE

Hey bloggy people, there's something urgent I need to share with you.

It's about a new language that I've been learning.

Maybe it's a language you have heard before?

But speaking for myself this is new. And almost daily I've had a crash course lesson in the language I shall call,  KENTUCKYNESE.

You see, almost immediately after I started my job I noticed things being said that I had never heard before.

Not just one thing....

Not just two things....

But so many that eventually I started a list.

And since I'm learning a new language, maybe you should as well. Or maybe you've heard these before? PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Here is my comprehensive list of KENTUCKYNESE thus far:

1) She's walking like dead lice is falling off of her. (When I heard this one I thought my co-worker may have misspoken. I mean what the heck does THAT mean? Well, apparently it means you are walking slow. WHO KNEW?)

2) Fair to midland. (When you ask someone, "how are you today?" Did you know that some people might reply, "fair to midland" Did you even know this was a response? Uh, not me.)

3) Somethings rotten in Denmark. (I think this one refers to fishy behavior. I think.)

4) It's a comin' a frog-strangler. (It's going to rain a ton)

5) It's gonna rain to beat the band. (Another way to say it's gonna rain a lot)

6) He's meaner than a strip-ed snake. (Evidently he's really mean)

6) Biggest duck in the puddle. (I think this refers to someone thinking they are big stuff.)

7) They can worry warts off a frog. (Apparently this refers to a great worrier.)

8) My stomach thinks my throats been cut. (A disturbing way to say you're hungry.)

9) It's like looking for a pig in a poke. (I'm just not even sure.)

10) You're grinning like an opossum eating briers. (Up to no good?)

11) Using dirty Kotex instead of gasoline. (NO CLUE)

And the last thing I need to explain. Here in these parts when you have a package of crackers, say packaged peanut butter crackers, or even the crackers with cheese in them, they are referred to as NABS.

You guys, it's KENTUCKYNESE.

A Mother's Day timeline

On Saturday when putting the kids to bed, I sat three Bushes on the couch and gave a little speech:

"Tomorrow is the one day a year that I get sleep in. No child shall wake me up. You walk to your DADDY'S side of the bed, and LET ME SLEEP."

And you know what? Those sweet babies tried their darndest to let me sleep. But you know I still could hear their "whispers" to their daddy, but bless them, they at least tried.

But they were so anxious for their mommy to wake up, because they had some gifts to give, and with that my Mother's Day began...

7:30 a.m.

In all my glory, I was bestowed with MANY gifts.

They must have drawn me 25 pictures each, and candy, and cards. Pure sweetness!

9:30 a.m.

A packed church service with the family.

11:30 a.m.

Lunch at mommy's choice, and mommy always chooses where we eat based on GUACAMOLE.

3:00 p.m.

Paul gave me the gift that keeps on giving.....

ALONE TIME.

And so began a 4 hour journey of me time.

I love my babies more than life itself.

But alone time ranks RIGHT BEHIND THAT.

And with that my Mother's Day came to an end.

I was sad that I couldn't be with my family, but I just choose to think on my blessings. I'm SO grateful to be a mommy. I know there are many women who always dreamt of being a mom, but for whatever reasons it didn't work out for them.

It's a hard job, but I love it.

I want to end with documenting what the kids said about me in the things they made for me at school.

My Mother, A True Story. Written and Illustrated by: Hope Bush

My mom really likes to: SLEEP! (True)

My mom always forgets to: Get dressed. (I honestly have no clue)

My mom is happy when: I'm nice to my brother. (Also true)

My mom's favorite color is: Yellow. (Yes)

I love when my mom: Play with me! (I should do that more often)

My favorite thing about my mom is: Dancing! (That made me smile)

My favorite things to do with my mom are: Cook! And help. (And mommy loves that too!)

My mother's hair is: Black!

My mom's eyes are: Blue!

She is as tall as a: A locker! (OK?)

My mom looks the best when she wears: A dress!

SUPERMOM! By Pierce Bush

My mom loves me the best when I am nice to her.

My mom looks prettiest when she goes to church.

I like being with my mom most when we are at Indiana.

If I could give my mom something just from me it would be a new car. (I will remember this)

My favorite thing about my mom is that she is my mom. (It's my favorite too)

My favorite thing to do with my mom is to play basketball with my mom. (sweetness) I also like to do I spy with you.

One day I was riding my bike. Then I almost fell but my mom saved me. (SWEETNESS)

The funniest thing about my mom is that she tells jokes, she dances crazy, and she dresses up.

Thankful.
