Baseball excitement

So another season of baseball is under way.

This season Pierce is playing for the A's, that's him in the red backpack.

Last season was a rough one, but this one is already off to a better start.

I told Pierce last night, even if you guys didn't win another game you've already won more than you did last season!

He is definitely pumped about it all.

And of course Hope is doing what she does best...

Hanging out with her buddies.

These two together are a mess!

But probably the biggest mess of all of us was me on Saturday.

I stepped away to check on Hope for a few minutes and when I walked back I saw Pierce standing on the pitchers mound.

I looked around like, WHAT THE WHAT?

And then I virtually turned into Madea.

Pierce has never pitched.

He's practiced once.

But there he was, about to pitch.

Paul only let me take pictures while he was warming up, because his nerves were very obvious. Once he got going though he did really well, and told me after the game he really enjoyed it. So who knows, maybe a little more pitching in his future.

But the highlight of his little baseball career so far was last night. Of course it was the night I decided not to take any pictures or anything, I was just sitting back and taking in the moment.

Bases loaded, Pierce gets up to bat, and whap, it went flying. At first I thought maybe a triple, but they just kept going and going. I was jumping up and down screaming, and Paul was yelling, and well it happened! A GRAND SLAM! Pierce was beside his self with excitement! All the boys were jumping up and down, and of course you know I was jumping up and down. It was just so exciting!

After all that excitement we decided a little ice cream was in order.

A hit like that is something I think most little boys dream of, so I must say I put a very happy little boy to bed tonight.

Let's go A's!

Back in the saddle

Despite mounds of snow on the ground, it's that time of year again.

Time to crank up the bats, warm up the gloves, and spit. Or whatever it is you baseball playing people do.

Pierce has already had tryouts and been assigned a team, he's now an A. Is that right? The A's?

Last year we had an interesting year, and by interesting I mean bad. But this year feels right! Or at least that's what I've been told. His coach is the football coach for WKU, who also happened to play for the Broncos, the Chargers, and the Redskins at one time. Hello, that's the bomb dignity to a 10 year old boy.

Practices have begun, and he's ready!

And I'm ready to spend hours at the ball field cheering on my boy!

Go A's!

My Yankee boys

We are well into our baseball season around here. I guess we are actually halfway through at this point, and at eight games in the Yankees have yet to win a game.

But Tuesday night everyone was certain it was their night to bag a win.

It was a gorgeous evening, and you could feel the electricity in the air. Coaches were giving big speeches right and left, and the kids were chanting away.

And they came out on fire!

I have a tendency to be an anxious soul, so these games and I don't always mix well.

But it's not about me, so I suck it up and snap away. And also scream hysterically when they do well.

They led the entire game but in the 6th inning the other team made a big run and there may have been a little panic. (On my end it was a BIG PANIC.)

But finally there was certainty that the Yankees were actually going to win a game.

It was the morale booster these boys needed.

Will we win another game? WHO KNOWS.

But this was a sweet evening.

Love my Yankee boys!

A new season. A new league.

As of last night our baseball season is officially underway.

Nothing quite like that first game, you know?

The excitement, the jitters, the feeling you might jump out of your skin. And I'm just talking about myself.

I do know Pierce was somewhat nervous. This is a new league this year, and it's pretty serious business.

And speaking of new territory, Paul has had to step into a coaching role.

Since I'm a Christian and all I will keep it nice and just say that our coaching this year has been different.

Even though Paul didn't sign up for this, this is where we are and he's been great to just step up. And actually Pierce is very happy about it, so I will call it good.

And you know who just stepped back into her role like she never skipped a beat.

Making friends like the extrovert she is.

Probably the biggest event of the game last night was when Pierce got hit by a ball. This is kid pitch league so it's naturally going to happen for a while, but still seeing it happen? You know my insides screamed, GET UP AND RUN TO YOUR BABY! And while you are at it, HOLD HIM AND ROCK HIM LIKE A BABY.  I would totally do that if I could.

But I kept my cool, as did Pierce.

I guess we are both growing up.

Excited for a new season! Let's do this Yankees! (And yes he is Kaepernicking)

I haven't been swallowed up by a sinkhole

So last week the baseball season started.

And while we are all excited about it, I was also a little taken back at the amount we will be practicing. When the coach handed me the schedule and said, "practice is five times a week" I just looked at him like, you crazy mister.

You know, something like this.

But what you gonna do? Apparently little league is the real deal and these coaches have to make real players out of these boys.

So it has begun.

In the dark, with snow on the ground.

From here on out, I will try and have a positive attitude about it. I'll try.

Oh and just because she's cute and she's now mastered the 'throw-your-hair-on-top-of-your-head-after-a-shower' thingy. One step closer to womanhood.

With all these practices and stuff, blogging may take a hit. I'll do what I can (mom and dad) but don't fret, I haven't been swallowed up by a sinkhole, I'm just sitting at a ball field somewhere.

Until next season..

Since April we have spent hours at the baseball field.

And boy did I like to complain about all those said hours.

But all complaining aside, this baseball life grows on you.

As we headed into the playoffs, of course all of wanted the boys to do well, but I think more importantly, we were all wanting wins so the season wouldn't be over.

And those Tigers started out strong!

With a major upset the first game!

And then another win!

But eventually we faced a team that was the equivalent of the Yankees. Geesh.

It was a hard loss, but more than anything I think the boys were shell shocked, what with their rap music blaring and do-rags on their heads.  As Pierce asked me later that night, "mom where were those kids from?!" Ha!

Our final game was Saturday morning, and before I knew it, I was watching them do their very last team huddle.

As one of the other moms said to me, "our family is going to need baseball therapy, we're all sad and going to miss you guys!"

And it's true! You get attached to the kids, the moms, and even the coaches.

Pierce keeps saying to me, "I can't believe the season is over" and as much as I was ready for a break, I feel the same way.

But for now, it's over.

Until next season...
