Life according to kids

Pierce: "Mom, you are grumpy in the morning and late at night, but during the day you are really good."

Hope: "Mom will you be alive when I get married?"

We've been discussing me getting a bike..

Pierce: "Mom you really should go on and get one now, you are 41 and I'm just not sure how many good years you have left."

Hope: "Mommy do you know what I do when I have to take a gross medicine? I close my eyes and envision a brownie or an iPod, then I just down it. It really helps."

My friend Brittany is pregnant and Pierce heard me saying she was going to the doctor...."Mom, did Brittany go to the doctor for an inspection?"

Hope: "Momma I'm gonna ask you something, I'm sure you'll say no, but go big or go home I say."

Speaking of Brittany having a baby, Pierce lets me know: "Mom not to be offensive, but you are too old to have a baby."

Hope: "Mom if you were younger that would look good on you." (Apparently my kids are obsessed with my age.)

Pierce: "Mom we had to take a WRITTEN test in PE! What's this country coming too?!"

Me talking to Hope....

"Hope! Your handwriting on this paper is so nice!"

Hope: "Mom this is fourth grade. No more messing around."

Life according to kids

I accidentally left trash in the car one day, and when we got into the car the smell was definitely a reminder that I forgot!

Pierce: "Man! It smells like a porter potty in here!"

Hope and I were shopping and she picks up a pair of G-string underwear, she studied them for several minutes and was totally confused by them.

Hope: "MOMMY THERE IS NOTHING TO COVER YOUR STUFF!"

Pierce was telling me a really juicy story, full of great detail, and then we reached the climax of the story:

Pierce: "Mom she let the cat out!"

Me: "She let the cat out?"

Pierce: "Yeah! It was funny, the cat was out!"

Me: "I am confused, what do you mean? There was a cat?"

Pierce:  "Mom, she spilled the beans! You know, she let the cat out!"

Hope is apparently quite the little witness at school. While I am proud of her for sharing about Jesus, I am a little nervous that I'm gonna get a call one day. And since this happened, we've had a few talks about maybe a nicer way to share...

Hope: "Mommy a girl told me that she believes in many god's, so I told her she was gonna go to hell."

Hope: "Mommy, I have a dream. You know like Marker Luther Jr."

Pierce: "Mom when I grow up and don't have any money, is it okay if I still live with you?"

Hope loves sharks, so we were having a big discussion about all things shark.

Hope: "You know which sharks I like the least? The sand shark! He just lays there! I like sharks that are more entertaingful."

Pierce: "Mom I like everything about you, but my favorite thing is your personality." (Heart melted)

Life According to Kids

*It's been quire a while since I did one of these posts, so some of the things the kids said are from the end of last school year.*

One day as I picked up the kids from school, Hope excitedly jumps into the car with big news!

Hope: "We have a talent show at school on Monday!"

Me: "Oh fun! What might you do?"

Hope: "I don't know mommy! I have so many talents, how can I choose?!"

Pierce was talking to me about teachers he hoped to get or not get, and was explaining to a certain to teacher to me.

"Well she's kind of old. You know like your age."

Hope was giving me the scoop about a child in her class.

Hope: "Well, she picks her nose and eats her boogers! I see her trying to hide it!"

Pierce: "Man, even I don't do that."

Pierce is my old soul child, always has been. Sometimes it's just more evident than others.

A  young girl came flying into our parking lot and I was busy staring her down and Pierce could see I was about to confront her.

"Mom she's a teenager, what do you expect? Remember you were like that once and I bet you drove  fast too."

It was a day of squeals and giggles

On Saturday morning by the time the clock read this...

Someone was dressed, ready, and anxiously awaiting for the day ahead.

She only had a mere 5 hours to kill. Oy.

But the wait was worth it.

I had told Hope weeks ago that as part of her birthday I would let her pick a friend to come over for some girl time. I kept it a secret as to what we would do until the day of, so trust me the excitement was palpable.

I took the girls for a pedicure.

Off they darted for the specific chair they decided each should have.

They were surprisingly quiet during the actual pedicure.

Just sort of took in the moment.

Oh these girls...

They are sweet.

And oh so girly.

And when I looked at this picture I noticed how much Hope's face is changing.

Still young of course

But definitley growing up.

It was a day of squeals and giggles.

And we loved every second of it.

Life according to kids

Recent conversation with Pierce:

"Will her dad be there?"

"No, her dad has Jerry duty."

Right as we were about to pray for our meal, Hope decides she needs to go to the potty. She jumps down from her seat:

"Don't worry I will pray while I pee!"

Pierce: "Hey mom, I think I get all of my talent from dad."

Hope: "Mommy the first thing I notice when I meet a new person is their shoes."

Me: "It is? Why?"

Hope: "I don't know, it's just my thing."

Pierce: "Mom I love the sounds the woods make. Twitches breaking and birds twitin, it's just awesome sounds."

Me: "Pierce are you done acting like a crazy person?"

Pierce: "No mom, I'm just getting started."

Life according to kids

On one of our recent snow days I had what I thought was a brilliant idea:

"Pierce go get a book and read it to me!"

Pierce: "Are you kidding me? I'm not gonna read on my day off!"

"Mommy, if a kid lost his leg would he need to get britches?" (Crutches)

Me: "Pierce, come give mommy a hug!"

Pierce: "Nah, I'm not really feeling it."

On Friday nights Hope and I snuggle and watch, Say Yes to the Dress, and sometimes her commentary is better than the show.

One particular episode a boyfriend was with his fiance' while she tried on dresses and he wasn't liking the soon-to-be-brides choices:

Hope: "It's not about you honey!"

Pierce: "I'm sweating like a dog in a Chinese restaurant."

Hope: "Mommy can I get a milkshake at Steak n' Shake today?"

Me: "No."

Hope: "Why not?"

Me: "That's something we do on special occasions"

Hope: "Can today be a special occasion?"

Hope excitedly jumped in the car after school bursting to tell me something:

"Guess what mommy? The warthog saw his shadow!"
