We still like each other

As I was walking out of the gym Saturday morning Paul sent me a text:

Date night tonight. Olivia will be there at 6:00. Telling you now, so you can be ready. ( insert kissy
face emoji)

I do believe I stopped in my sweaty tracks, and a big smile spread across my face.

I honestly do not remember the last time that Paul and I went on a date, I tried to think of it, and I just couldn't remember. I just know that it's been MONTHS.

And who doesn't love being told like that? I know I personally do. And to top it all off he told me that we would go out for sushi which is one of my favorites.

It's not really his favorite, but he found some meat he could dip in sauce so it was all good.

My favorite sushi is from Kansai up home, and I've never found anything that good here. This wasn't bad, but I'm still searching.

We even went on an evening stroll

It was nice just to be out without the children. Even though on said evening stroll we talked about the kids, but at least no one was interrupting us the entire time.

Yes it's saptastic, but we still like each other.

I'm a lovely Valentine

I went to work prepared to see and most importantly smell a deluge of flowers on Valentines Day.

But did I honestly understand just how many flowers I would be helping handle on Friday?

Not a chance.

This was at 9:00. A.M.

Every few minutes more would come in.

To the point that the floor had to be used

Because all the tables were full.

These are kids in high school

Pretty shocked that high school kids get this much stuff!

But it was a fun day, and I enjoyed being in the thick of all the squeals and ooooooohs and ahhhhhhs.

And I was even part of the squeals myself when Paul surprised me at work.

And I in return have spent the weekend sick so he can take care of me.

I'm a lovely Valentine like that.

Paul answers

So my lake post still isn't finished. I JUST DON'T HAVE THE GUMPTION.

Instead of making myself do it, I decided now is a perfect time to steal an idea from Katherine. She did this post a few weeks back and I really enjoyed it, so now it's Paul's turn.

1) How long have we been married?
10 years.

(Literally that's all he said. His answer is correct, but what's with the brevity?)

2) Where was our first date?
Don Pablos.

(Again, that's all he said and he is correct again. It all started over chips and salsa.)

3) Where was our first kiss?
I have no idea!

(YOU GUYS, apparently he's super nostalgic about us. Oy. But never fear, I remember. First time I thought he was going to kiss me and I asked him, "are you going to kiss me?" as he stood an inch from my face, and he said NO and walked away. Something about he wouldn't kiss me until I was ready to publicly be his girlfriend, or something like that.  But that strong front only lasted one day, he kissed me the next night in his backyard.)

4) Who said I love you first?
I did. When I said it, I have no idea.

(It was about this time I started to have a meltdown, HE DOESN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING! But I actually don't remember when he told me either.)

5) When did you know you wanted to marry me?
Still don't have the answer to that one! Actually I have no clue! That was over 12 years ago!

(Clearly he thinks he's hilarious, and clearly he remembers nothing.)

6) What was your favorite thing about our wedding?
When we held hands around the door but still didn't see each other.

(This whole reach around the door thing, was actually Paul's idea, and I thought it was very sweet.)

7) What will I say was the least favorite thing about our wedding?
Dealing with family.

(I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.)

8) Best meal I've ever made you?
Anytime you cooked me my venison.

(You know I don't do this enough, because I don't enjoy making it. I should work on that)

9) Worst meal I've ever made you?
You did something with chicken, and it was funky.

(That's pretty vague, but I do remember making nuggets once and I had run out of breadcrumbs and didn't realize it. I tried to wing it with some seasoning, and it did end up pretty funky indeed.)

10)  What would I say is your most annoying habit?
When I scratch my head at night?

(Yeah, that's one of them.)

11) What is your favorite thing about me?
This is something everyone is going to read, right? Okay, then I will say when you scratch my back at night.

(So his favorite thing about me can't be told actually. SORRY DAD.)

12) What is my favorite food?
Salad-Grilled Chicken.

(Yeah that's about right, but also guacamole.)

13) What is my favorite thing to do?
I actually wont say what he said first....But then he said working out.

(Yes, shopping and working out are tops. No comment on the other)

14) What makes me happiest?
Blogging.

(Yeah blogging is great, but it doesn't make me the happiest.)

15) How many kids did I want?
Two.

(At this point I began to complain about his blunt answers at which he told me, "I'm a dude.")

16) What's the funniest thing about me?
Your fear of bugs.

(I had no idea he thought it was funny that I'm scared of bugs)

17) What do I consider a good date?
Going out to eat, home by 8:00, me rubbing your feet, you asleep by 9:00.

(WHATEVER. Asleep by 10)

18) What would the perfect day look like for me?
Getting up and working out, having the kids at school, no laundry to do, shopping, me rubbing your feet, and you finishing the day blogging.

(There is actually a lot more to me than this, but this kind of day would be lovely)

Some of his answers were not exactly what I expected, but then again that's us.

Go us!

I have my kids in bed, and honestly I'm wanting to be in bed too, but I'm determined to blog so I can have a post Monday morning. But lemme' say, I'm tired. We had a very busy weekend in the land of milk-and-honey, but SUCH fun. There's part of me that wants to blog it all at one time, but that won't work, so I will start with event #1, with the rest to follow....

On Friday we were officially married a decade, and it was time to celebrate that accomplishment. So, we dropped the kids off at my parents, and ran like the wind before they could change their minds.

Because Paul and I had a date with a view.

And for those who don't know, I'm pointing to what is known at the holy lands, or Indiana as most refer to it.

We were like a couple of young'ins, who ventured out to the big city.  We.were.excited.

Though close to forty, we still get giddy when we have a night to ourselves, and receive a special treat to commemorate our anniversary.

But the excitement

May have been

Premature

Yeah, it totally tasted like rubbing alcohol.

But disgusting champagne wouldn't stop us. We were kid-free, semi-young, and ready to party!

But before the night began, I told Paul we had to set up the tri-pod and get a shot of the two of us. And this is why our marriage works, because he is sweet and puts up with me. BUT, when you are not sure what you are doing with your camera, you might end up with some less-than-stellar-shots.

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Exhibit C.  Okay, technically this one is not the cameras fault....

And lastly, our prom-shot.

Okay, yes, we are ghetto, but we do it with panache.

I would say, what we were both most excited about, was a nice dinner.

It had been a long time since we had been anywhere this nice.

It was absolutely gorgeous, and we ordered things to eat, such as floo-floo-fla-fla with a side of, tofoo- a-blo-blah.

Yeah, we totally didn't know what the food was, and it sounded like Japanese to us, but we didn't have to cut up chicken fingers, or tell anyone to lower their voice, so we were good.

We had normal conversation, enjoyed our view, and of course, played with the camera-settings.

We're insane.

BUT.

BUT the night was young.

So we headed downtown to Fourth Street.

SO out of our element, but SO much fun.

And that's exactly what we wanted on this night.

A time to act a fool, get out of our element, get giddy, sleep in, and celebrate us.

Go us!

A decade.

It was a mild December day

And I was a December bride.

I didn't see my groom that day

We only briefly spoke, and held hands, with a door separating us.

I wasn't nervous at all

And of course, Paul wasn't, you know since he never feels that emotion.

I was just excited

And ready to be a wife to Paul.

And on a Saturday evening, at exactly 6:30

We sealed the deal with a kiss.

As we walked off that stage, I remember feeling so happy and excited.

And that first moment, when we were referred to as Mr. and Mrs?  So surreal.

Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday

And sometimes I'm sure we are about to celebrate 50 .

There is so much I could say about our marriage, and the last ten years, but I will sum it up like this

Paul is still my favorite guy.

A decade.
