It's been a while since I've done a Flashback Friday, but Katherine did one last week and made me feel all nostalgic. And errrbody knows what a nostalgic sap I am, so I decided to jump back on the flashback train.
With so much of our energy focused on our nephews for the games, and the baby, I thought why not look back at how much they have changed the last few years.
Just over 6 years ago Cody was definitely in the throws of "becoming a man." I know if he reads this that will make him want to hurt me. But it's true! I mean look at his little fuzzy upper lip! And if it makes you feel any better Cody, I am in the throws of expanding hips, thanks to a baby in the belly.
I take so many pictures, and I know that annoys everyone, but how else would we have such sweet pictures like this? I MEAN, COME ON.
Or gems like this?
I adore my nephews, and I just can't help but get all choked up when it comes to them.
They've been through their fair share, and I just see them as sweet baby boys.
And I'm so happy that we will be able to join the family this Saturday to watch Cody play his last game, ever.
At the tender age of 10, I became an aunt to the one-and-only, Christopher John.
You can only imagine my delight at the idea of having a real live baby to play with and hold! I celebrated the occasion with some, awesome hot powder blue silky short shorts. Trend-setter from the beginning guys.
Christopher was the center of the family! He brought so much joy, and we all treasured that little boy.
Fast forward and suddenly Christopher is a man. Dumb how that happens, but indeed kids do grow up.
But as sad as it is, when little ones aren't so little anymore, there are perks that come accompany watching them become adults. One of the biggest perks?
Well, her name is Jaclyn.
Jaclyn has been in our family a long time! Actually since 2005.
And she is one of us.
We all just adore this couple.
Soooooo, on February 13th when I noticed a missed Face Time call from her, I just deleted it assuming she accidentally did that.
I mean, Jaclyn doesn't Face Time with me.
Then I got this message the next day..
AND THEN THIS MESSAGE.
Jaclyn was desperate to see me face-to-face.
I was sure why at this point, but it was awesome to hear the confirmation.
And here it is! There's a new member of the family on the way!!!! YIPEE! And let me just say, it's been so hard to keep this quiet for over a month!
But now we have been granted permission to shout out the good news!!
You guys! My sweet Christopher and Jaclyn are having a baby!
Do you know what this means? I will be a great-aunt! My brother is gonna be a grandpa! And my parents will be great-grandparents! OH EM GEE.
Busting. BUSTING AT THE SEAMS WE ARE.
Oh, and generally great-aunts are a little coo-coo, right?
Besides a very important concert, there was this VERY important game that we were all anticipating on Saturday. It was the final-four, and Borden was hoping to win semi-state and head to THE final game in Indianapolis.
My girlies and I loaded up with our own little caravan in hopes of witnessing a big win. And I in typical form am the one loaded down with junk on every limb. Oh, and seriously what great friends do I have?? I KNOW.
And 3 out of our combined brood came along to cheer.
Let's talk about the town of Borden, Indiana for a minute.
It has a population of 817
And number of tickets they sold for the game? 1600.
There were around 7000 people in that gym, and we heard it was the biggest tourney crown at that sight ever.
It's safe to say that this small town takes their ball very serious. Or maybe it's just safe to say that Indiana takes its ball very serious.
Just about our entire family was at the game, and I sat right behind momma.
Of course I view her as my sister, but look at this picture. This is a mom. A mom who is full of nerves waiting to watch her first born play one of the biggest games of his life.
Oh, and these are just two of the greatest girls ever. That's all.
And finally it was almost time....
I had big intentions of taking pics of the game, but nope. Nerves have a funny way of ruining all your plans.
But I have to talk about these two sweet boys! I have never seen anything CUTER than how much they got into the game!
Honestly.
Oh, and then there was this one. Kept wanting me to get up and get her more candy. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We were stuck in there tighter than a baby in the womb! And of course she pouted...
Good thing for her she found someone to giver her sympathy.
Listen, I couldn't be handing out sympathy, I had screaming to do.
And more importantly, I needed to say "SHOOT" and then fluff my hair.
I didn't even realize I was doing that until Tracey tweeted it! But thank you Katherine for your hair fluff support!
But you guys, this game.
It, like all of their games, was a nail-biter to the end.
But they did it! I couldn't watch the end, I just looked up at Jami and Tracey and when I saw them screaming in excitement I knew they had won it. I couldn't believe it, and Jo was the first person I had to hug.
I didn't even bother to try and get down there for a while, it was just so crazy!
But after I saw Cody cut down the net, we pushed our way through the crowd to find him.
And then finally....
It was just so good to see him and have a chance to hug him! He was disgustingly sweaty, but I didn't mind.
All of us are just so excited for him.
And it's this boy right here? Well, he has been his brothers biggest cheerleader. SERIOUSLY, IMA SOB NOW.
They have won sectional.
They have won regionals.
They have won semi-state.
Now all that's left is the big game. THE ONE. They are State bound!
And when I think about Borden, I can't help but think about the movie Hoosiers. Small-town school hitting the big-time. Our very own Hoosiers.
