February blahs

Be content in all circumstances....

This verse is truth.

And this verse even remains true when it's February and you are just feeling kind of blah.

So yes Lord, content.

But that doesn't mean I can't reminisce, right?

Thinking about the beach tonight

And how I wish we were there.

Water lapping at our feet

Or maybe just crashing in our faces.

NO schedules

And grown women who get too much sun on their faces only to age themselves 15 years.

So yeah, I'm wishing I was HERE

But ima reamin content.

There's a new Robinson

So on Saturday night my brother got married.

I guess I'm just jumping right to the news, but I'm not really sure how else to do it.  My brother is now married. For various reasons we could not make it up to the wedding, so all I have to show you are pictures my mom sent to me from her phone.

Of course since I was not there, I can only guess on how it all went down, so bear with me while I make stuff up.

I do know that the wedding was a secret. There was an event at their church that had people already there, and at the end of said event, Chris and Teresa just went up on stage and got married!

Family knew they were getting married but that was it. There's my nephew Christopher, on the left of my brother, and Teresa's son on the right in the black shirt.

They wrote their own vows.

I would assume full of mushy sentiments.

Oh and the pastor knew about it, of course.

Bummed I missed it.

And always bummed when I miss seeing my family...

So it's official, there's a new Robinson in the family. Buckle up Teresa, we crazy.

Congratulations guys!

Enough with the snow days

I think we are now up to snow day 8? And I know that most everyone is in the same boat as us, just counting their summer days goodbye.

I enjoy them in the moment of sleeping in and being a little lazy with the kids...

But like any typical woman human, I'm never completely happy with my circumstances. We try and make the most of all these days at home, INSIDE..

Like manicures (and examining our crooked finger genes)

And lots of girlie time.

But mainly all these snow days are good for games.

And we've brought out some oldies.

I think the kids are LOVING all this attention.

But daddy and I agree, enough with the snow days. Mmmmm, k?

Life according to kids

On one of our recent snow days I had what I thought was a brilliant idea:

"Pierce go get a book and read it to me!"

Pierce: "Are you kidding me? I'm not gonna read on my day off!"

"Mommy, if a kid lost his leg would he need to get britches?" (Crutches)

Me: "Pierce, come give mommy a hug!"

Pierce: "Nah, I'm not really feeling it."

On Friday nights Hope and I snuggle and watch, Say Yes to the Dress, and sometimes her commentary is better than the show.

One particular episode a boyfriend was with his fiance' while she tried on dresses and he wasn't liking the soon-to-be-brides choices:

Hope: "It's not about you honey!"

Pierce: "I'm sweating like a dog in a Chinese restaurant."

Hope: "Mommy can I get a milkshake at Steak n' Shake today?"

Me: "No."

Hope: "Why not?"

Me: "That's something we do on special occasions"

Hope: "Can today be a special occasion?"

Hope excitedly jumped in the car after school bursting to tell me something:

"Guess what mommy? The warthog saw his shadow!"

It's all about the hair

I used to do better about having Paul take my picture with the kids on days we got all gussied up.

And as of yesterday I decided we are gonna do these type of pictures more often. But here's a cool thing about waiting a long time, it's quite noticeable how much the kids have changed.

Um, hello.

This is crazy. Especially Pierce!  He has grown up to my shoulder now.

But growing just seems to be what he's best at lately. And one of his most recent transformations is a new found obsession with his hair.

And he does indeed have a good head of hair.

But watching him primp?

This is a new territory.

Sometimes he asks me five times a day how his hair looks...

And I feel as though I'm dealing with a teenage boy or something. But I guess changing and growing happens slowly over time, and first up for us is the hair.

But I get it....

With parents who had hair like this, what do you expect?

It's all about the hair.

Flashback Friday!

When I came across this photo the other day, I stopped in my tracks.

My gosh, who are those poor children and what did I do to them?

Bruised little legs and dirty little feet. Solemn little faces and sweat on their brows. Sad little lunches of hot dogs and pretzels. And an even sadder set-up of a cooler for a table.

Are these poor children abused?

Are the neglected?

WHAT COULD IT BE

Some do call it abuse...

 But actually it's camping.

And they loved every minute of it, as sad and abused as they look.

P.S. I miss these days.

Spring

I consider myself a winter kind of gal.

I enjoy snow, I enjoy cold temps, and I enjoy coffee, so winter is my jam.

But here's what I've discovered as a mother. Winter=sickness, and THAT I do not like....

My kids seem to start falling apart come January.

Last winter was bad, and prayerfully this winter is better, but we are now dealing with croup.

And between that and being trapped indoors?

Maybe it's time I pick a new jam.

I'm looking at you Spring.
