Coming of age

These days we are chest deep in baseball.

There are several practices a week, and baseball related jargon on the tips of our tongues daily.

So with all that baseball on the brain, we were in for a real treat Saturday night.

Paul worked it out so that Pierce's whole team could go to a Hot Rods game! The Hot Rods are a Bowling Green baseball team, I guess minor league? I'm the wrong person to say really, but anyways, it was our first time to a game.

Originally I assumed Paul would be taking Pierce, but he had to work a job fair there, so that mean ol' mommy had to get him there.

Baseball is not my idea of a good time, but I'm usually game for whatever. I imagined fun food, and lots of cute moments to capture.

But as we were walking out the door...

"Mom, please don't yell, cry, or take pictures of me at the game tonight."

I guess I've scarred the poor children and they think I will behave like it's a Borden game. Whateves.

"Okay, sure, I will behave."

Of course, I still had intention to drag in my big camera, but he plead with me again.

"Mom, please don't take pictures at the game. You will embarrass me."

And with that, I knew that Pierce was serious. He did not want me to act up in front of his friends, and I realized that I do in fact embarrass him. Kinda sad for me, but I guess he's growing up.

I did get the yummy food I had envisioned, and I did manage to sneak a picture or two with my cell phone.

But I was very subdued and quiet, and did my best not to embarrass Pierce.

I think Pierce had a great time with his friends, but as we were driving home he acted kind of bothered about something.

"Mom, if we go again, I want you to yell and take pictures."

"Oh you do?"

"Yeah, I do."

Maybe he is coming of age, but I guess he still likes me some.

How sweet! Sometimes they think they don't need us mothers but then they change their minds pretty quickly!

aww…that's sweet. My son has hit the age where he still loves his mom, but prefers to sit on the other side of the gym at sporting events. :/

I love that he missed the fuss you usually make over him. :-)
