MIA

I feel like I've been out of the blog loop for a few days, but I've had good reason for my absence.

Neena and Papaw arrived here on Thursday! Oh, happy day!
Pierce's book fair was this past week, and mommy and daddy both made appearances. You know the usual thing, give the parents sugar and make them buy books, and of course we oblige on both accounts.
Thursday was the grandparent day though, and our kids were blessed that one set of grandparents made it down.
The book fair had a super cute Hawaiian/Aloha theme this year, and lots of cute props for photo ops for obnoxious parents and grandparents. Thank goodness they still humor us.
And it warms my heart to see the kids so interested in books. Lord knows, we did our fair share to support the school between three sets of us buying books! Geesh.
I cooked Thursday night, and we just hung out and relaxed. Well, some of us more than others. Ha! Hope and my dad were out a little after 6:00!! Little did they know they were really going to need to be rested up for Friday...

When I went to bed Thursday night, there was already a lot of buzz about the impending weather for Friday. I don't know why, but this set of storms just seemed more worrisome. On Friday morning my phone had already been blowing up with texts and warnings and I just had a sick feeling about the day ahead. I *really* wanted to keep Pierce home from school, but I did not.

For the majority of the day here in KY, the weather was actually nice. The sun was shining and it was unseasonably warm. My mom and I did what we do best most of the day. Shop of course. But around 2:00 my time, my sister called me and she was in the THICK of it. She was on her way to Borden to pick up Cody and Nathan, and basically driving right into the storm. She made it to the school, just in the nick of time, and they got her inside and under a table.

For the next hour, all that my parents and I did was text with her, and I also with Tracey and Jami. My sister was under a table and could hear the tornado right outside the school. Oh my word. So, we all sat and just waited. Tracey and Jami kept giving me updates, and I knew that so far everyone was safe. Little did I know though, really just how bad it was. As the storm dissipated in Indiana, I started hearing reports, and that's when I heard about Henryville school, and of course I immediately thought about Levi. But thankfully he was at home with his mom, and thankfully my sister and the boys were also safe from the storm.

Lots of other people were not okay though, and I've seen many sad images the last few days. It breaks my heart that this happened.

Of course anytime anyone faces something like this, it's awful. But when it's your 'home' I guess it just feels more real or something.

So as the storms were stopping in Indiana, that's when it started getting more serious here. People in these parts don't have basements, because of the caves, they are just crazy expensive to build. Brittany had been at the church most of the day with her kids, and that's where we headed, the church basement. We just hung out and texted, looked at Ipads, and chit chatted.
The kids hung out and watched some t.v. and played, but we only had to wait it out about an hour. Thankfully though, we were sparred of any horrific storms like had happened at home.

The day itself was tiring though, just the worry and emotional ups and downs of the whole day. Brittany had an idea that we should go catch a chick flick that night, and it sounded good to me. We went to the 9:40 showing of The Vow, that's a serious late night for this old momma! The movie was good, def a chick flick, but I would recommend it. I have a funny story though...

It was Brittany, myself and Leigh Anne.  So you picture it, three momma's, in our momma outfits with our big popcorn and diet cokes, totally looking the role of 'middle aged' women out to see a movie. I walk up first for the man to take my ticket and he says

"are you over 18?"

(I assume he's trying to humor me or something)

"well, yes I am over 18"

"okay, give me your hand for your stamp"

(well that's odd I think. I need a hand stamp to watch this movie??)

"oh, okay, here you go"

"okay, Project X is on the right"

"We are here to see The Vow!"

"OH! I just assumed you were headed to see Project X here, like everyone else is"

"Uh no. Is this why you stamped my hand with an X?"

"Yes. Project X is basically a porn movie, and we have to make sure that you are over 18 to see it. No one under 18 will be seeing this movie"

Well, allrighty then! I had never even heard of this movie, and somehow he assumed I was headed in there with all those young people, excited to go get their naughty on.

So, here I am.  A 38 year old mom, wearing my mom jeans, yawning from being out at past 9:30 at night, and I was flippin' branded to go see a porn basically. Good times people, good times.

Most of the rest of our weekend was spent doing what my mom and I do best.
And this one is a shopping prodigy. She just keeps right up with us!
She loves shopping for herself, but she also helps mommy out.
And I'm not gonna lie. I love it!! Us three women folk have fun!
And the kids get super cute clothes too boot!
These two love having their grandparents around.
And I can't say that I blame them, because I do too!

Good to hear your community dodged the weather bullet. Wish I could say the same for ours.

Hope you have a great week.
